Top Ten Songs You Won’t Believe Didn’t Win the Oscar

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten “Best Original Song” Winners

There have been a lot of great tunes written for films over the years…and even more crap. But in the aftermath of John Legend and Common’s victory at Sunday night’s Oscars, I began to think about what the best songs ever to win the Academy Award are.
Here is my list of the top ten “Best Original Song” winners. I had to reduce the amount of Disney in it, because (let’s be honest) it would probably sweep this list and the category as a whole:

  1. “Over the Rainbow” from The Wizard of Oz
  2. “A Whole New World” from Aladdin
  3. “Skyfall” from Skyfall
  4. “White Christmas” from Holiday Inn
  5. “Things Have Changed” from Wonder Boys
  6. “When You Wish Upon a Star” from Pinocchio
  7. “The Way We Were” from The Way We Were
  8. “Whatever Will Be, Will Be (Que Sera, Sera)” from The Man Who Knew Too Much
  9. “Falling Slowly” from Once
  10. “The Way You Look Tonight” from Swing Time

Next week I’ll be doing a list of the Top 10 “Best Original Song” nominees that should be winners!
